EcoAction Arlington Committees
Help to support the ongoing work of EcoAction Arlington and shape the direction of the organization. We request that you commit to taking part in a committee for a minimum of one year.
Board of Directors
EcoAction Arlington Board of Directors are motivated volunteers who believe in our mission to promote sustainable living and who possess key skills to govern the organization and guide our work.
The EcoAction Arlington board of directors currently has openings for both general members and student members and is seeking interested applicants.
Deadlines:
General Members: the deadline to complete an expression of interest form is September 30, 2024
Student Board Members: the deadline to complete an expression of interest form is July 31, 2024.

The process —
Student Board Positions
- One-year term starting October 1
- Election in September
General Board Positions
- Two-year term
- Next election for current openings: November 2024
- Annual election: March
The commitment —
We welcome interest from residents of the DC Metropolitan Region (except for student board members who must reside in Arlington).
- Completing a commitment form
- Volunteering a minimum of 50 hours each year
- Participating on a committee or task force (and attending meetings as needed)
- Making a meaningful annual financial contribution to EcoAction Arlington
- Attending a new board member orientation session
- Attending seven board meetings per year, usually on the 4th Wednesday at 7 – 9 p.m. as follows:
February – March – annual meeting (date varies) – April – June – September – November – December – board and staff social (date varies)
The average time commitment per month is five hours.
Student commitment —
Each student board member must be 18 years or younger, attending a middle school or high school, and a resident of Arlington County for the duration of his or her term. Student commitments align with the above with a volunteering minimum of 25 hours each year. Student board members serve as leaders of our student engagement committee. Student board members may also join other committees of interest.
Your Role as a Board Member —
Board members will —
- Educate themself about the programs & issues relevant to EcoAction Arlington.
- Serve as a committed member of the EcoAction Arlington Board of Directors and meet all board responsibilities detailed above, including making an annual financial gift to EcoAction Arlington.
- Prepare for and participate constructively in board meetings and committees and provide financial and programmatic oversight to the organization.
- Set the tone for board and committee work, ensuring that all relevant information is shared among members of subcommittees, board members, and staff.
- Provide practical support and assistance to the Executive Director.
- Advocate on behalf of EcoAction Arlington with key stakeholders.
- Use connections to raise community awareness.
- Work with the development committee and staff to develop and implement the annual fundraising plan.
- Bring in financial support through personally solicited funds and sponsorships.
