Energy Masters Coordinator

EcoAction Arlington is seeking a program coordinator for our new Energy Masters program in Fairfax County. The program coordinator would oversee program operations in Fairfax including a volunteer training program, work days, community outreach events and school presentations. This position is contingent on receiving grant funding. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the marketing and promotion of the volunteer training program.
  • Participating in the site visit and site selection for work days.
  • Interviewing potential volunteer candidates for the program and following up with applicants about the outcome.
  • Assisting with the logistics and preparation for training sessions.
  • Attending and facilitating training program sessions.
  • Conducting and maintaining current inventory of all program supplies
  • Organizing and facilitating work day prep sessions held prior to a scheduled work day,
  • Coordinating work day logistics in advance of and on the work day, including: working with resident services coordinator at housing partner to facilitate work day activities, scheduling units in which work will be completed, creating work day teams based on volunteer availability and create work day schedule in which teams are assigned to specific units.
  • Coordinating volunteer groups and manage workflow on work days.
  • Completing post work day tasks, including updating master tally lists, drafting reports to be shared with housing partners and program partners and coordinating collection of utility data.
  • Developing presentations on energy to deliver to Fairfax schools and coordinating and scheduling presentations at schools.
  • Coordinating, scheduling and execution of community outreach and education events.
  • Tracking volunteer hours and other work day and program statistics and assisting with the preparation of data for quarterly reports
  • Other duties as needed.

Term and Hours: The program coordinator will be hired as a contractor from November 2019 through June 2020 with the possibility of extension if additional funding becomes available. The position is part-time, averaging 80 hours a month.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience working with and managing volunteers.
  • A bachelor’s degree preferably in environmental science, engineering, or environmental policy.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Availability for evening training sessions (day of week TBD) and weekend events.
  • Ability to lift and transport work bins to and from storage location and work day sites.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with energy systems, energy efficiency and/or weatherization.
  • Background in managing budgets.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Spanish-language skills.

Senior Experience Internships

Senior Experience Internship

EcoAction Arlington is seeking students interested in completing their high school senior experience project in the spring of 2020 working for a community nonprofit with an internship focusing on environmental education. Students will deliver the Energy Carnival program, a classroom activity designed for elementary students with a focus on energy and our role in energy conservation in the home. This position offers a great opportunity to work with young students and engage them in a fun program while learning about energy and the importance of reducing our consumption in order to reduce greenhouse gases. Students will be working in a team with other high school students. There are a total of seven positions available.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Publicize program availability to teachers and extended day staff.
  • Confirm requests for presentations with all schools and finalize outreach calendar.
  • Prepare and organize supplies for presentations.
  • Deliver presentations to elementary audiences.
  • Compile evaluation results.
  • Document program accomplishments.

Internship Period: This position is 30 hours per week and lasts three to four weeks. There is flexibility on internship dates in late May/June 2020.

Qualifications

  • Interest in environmental issues.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Experience working with kids.
  • Ability to conduct multiple tasks.
