Project Manager (part-time consultant)

As of 9/1/2026, we are no longer accepting applications for this position

EcoAction Arlington is hiring a part-time program manager, averaging 80 hours a month. The contract position is funded at $11,000 from mid-September to December 2026. We will be hiring a full-time program manager in January–candidates filling this position will have the opportunity to apply to and transition to the full-time position.

The manager will provide short-term program coordination and implementation to maintain continuity of EcoAction Arlington’s community programming during the fall and early winter, with a focus on community outreach, volunteer engagement, school and youth education, events, and community partnerships. Because this is a temporary engagement, an important component of the contract will be maintaining clear records, strengthening systems where appropriate, and ensuring an effective transition of ongoing programs, contacts, and responsibilities at the conclusion of the contract. This is a hybrid contract role with significant in-person responsibilities. The contractor should be available for in-person community events, school presentations, volunteer activities, program preparation, and meetings with community partners.

You will…

  • Organize and implement outreach events and service projects including overseeing logistics, ordering supplies, and attending events.
  • Manage a graduate fellow who will be designing and implementing a plan to deliver presentations to Arlington schools during the 2026-2027 school year.
  • Coordinate communications for all program activities in partnership with the communications team.
  • Compile program accomplishments for reports to funders and for the communications team.
  • Promote opportunities for service projects to local organizations and corporations.
  • Cultivate and engage corporate and community partners.
  • Support EcoAction Arlington’s fundraising efforts.
  • Complete other tasks as requested.

We’re looking for someone with…

  • A bachelor’s degree and five years’ work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant volunteer experience may be considered.
  • Experience in planning and executing events.
  • Skills in cultivating relationships with partners and sponsors.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for working with diverse partner organizations, program participants, and volunteers.
  • A thorough understanding of community outreach and DEI principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Solid organizational, planning and time management skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • A self-starting, proactive, persistent nature.
  • Background or interest in environmental issues.
  • Availability during evenings, weekends, and occasional federal holidays for outreach and service events as needed.
  • A degree in environmental science or sustainability is a plus.

Tree Ambassadors (part-time)

EcoAction Arlington is managing a team of 6 to 7 Tree Ambassadors throughout the year. As positions on this team open, we will consider new applicants on a rolling basis. Priority will be given to candidates residing in Arlington County in one of the 13 target neighborhoods of the EcoAction Arlington Tree Canopy Equity Program and to candidates who have Spanish-language skills.

Tree ambassadors will work up to 20 hours a month year-round promoting free trees. Training will be provided. These non-exempt positions will be paid on an hourly basis at $26 per hour with no benefits.

The Tree Ambassadors will support the Outreach Manager at EcoAction Arlington. This role requires a dedicated and passionate candidate who enjoys working at the grassroots level to engage diverse groups. This role is critical in advancing our mission to increase tree canopy coverage in Arlington, with a particular focus on engaging communities with low canopy coverage.

You will…

  • Canvas in Arlington neighborhoods
  • Cultivate relationships to engage stakeholders to support the Tree Canopy Equity Program
  • Establish relationships with ivic association leaders
  • Track, compile and enter data on canvassing areas and client requests for trees
  • Attend community events to promote the Tree Canopy Equity Program

We’re looking for someone with …

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, execute, and track progress  effectively
  • Passion for environmental sustainability, equity, and community empowerment
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace Suite
