Energy Masters Programs

We offer free events and education online. Reach out if your group or business wants to learn more about ways to improve comfort in your home or the spaces where your friends, family, and/or colleagues spend time.

The mission of Energy Masters is to educate local residents about energy, water, and natural resource conservation. We train volunteers to make basic efficiency upgrades in affordable housing units in Arlington County and the City of Alexandria in Virginia.

Our events fall into broad themes that exemplify the values of our two program administrators, EcoAction Arlington and the Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE). VCE’s mission is to bring learning experiences that improve the economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of Virginia residents and EcoAction Arlington’s mission aims to empower residents to maintain a clean and sustainable community.

Visit the Virginia Cooperative Extension’s calendar to register for events.

Energy-themed games
Description: Games offer a creative way to teach about energy. Energy Masters will hold online and in-person games periodically that are geared for adults and teenagers and fun for families. Reach out if you would like to reserve an informational game night for your group. Minimum of 10 people to reserve.

Home Learning Series
Description: Our “Home Learning” series will teach inexpensive ways to keep your dwelling more comfortable during the summer and winter. We will air the webinars live on Zoom generally on weekday evenings. These sessions are appropriate for renters and/or homeowners who want to conserve energy and lower their energy bills. Below are some of the topics we present as part of the series. Please visit VCE’s calendar to see specific event details.

  1. Warming up in the winter – a presentation that teaches how to reduce drafts and stay warmer. Register for live events on VCE’s calendar.
  2. Staying cool in the summer – Are you curious if running a fan instead of your air conditioning can save you money? Learn ways to keep your space cool without ballooning your energy bills.
  3. Taking care about indoor air – Become a smarter resident by learning about preventing mold growth and common air pollutants such as carbon monoxide.
  4. Demystifying utility bills – Is it hard to understand your utility bills? Volunteers will present examples of common utility bills and explain elements that make up the bill.
  5. Water conservation – Have you considered a shower head with a pause button that pauses water flowing while you shampoo? Learn practical tips to help conserve water no matter if you rent or own.
