Volunteers Needed: Energy Outreach in Schools

October 10, 2013

CFL Light BulbEcoAction Arlington Needs You to Deliver Energy Education in Schools

Energy is one of the foremost issues being addressed here in Arlington, across the country, and around the world. EcoAction Arlington is engaging our community in an effort to make our homes more energy efficient and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We are looking for volunteers who are available during the school day and after school to deliver fun and engaging programs in classrooms throughout Arlington. And, we’ve made it really easy ‘¦ just three steps!

  1. Apply to our School Outreach Training Program
Review our volunteer job description, and then complete the short online application below. Soon after, you’ll be contacted by EcoAction Arlington to learn more about the program and ask questions so we can both determine if there is a good fit.
  2. Participate in our School Outreach Training Program
If there is a good fit, you’ll be invited to participate in our school outreach training program on Thursday, November 7th at Fairlington Community Center. During the two-hour program, which runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., volunteers will receive training on delivering presentations about energy to K-12 classrooms. The themes of the presentations include our sources of energy, tips for conserving energy, and the impact of our energy uses on our planet. After training, volunteers perform 15 hours of service during the 2013-2014 school year, delivering five presentations in the schools. Volunteers must be available for a portion of school hours between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  3. Sign up to deliver programs in schools
We provide the curriculum and related materials, we schedule the workshops, you simply sign-up, review the program materials provided by EcoAction Arlington and deliver the program to the schools. Well be using lessons from NEED, the National Energy Education Development Project, a nonprofit organization that has a curriculum portfolio with over 130 teacher and student guides designed to teach teachers and students about energy. Details will be provided once the application and training processes have been completed.

Take a look at the position description to learn more and to see if this would be a good fit for you.

Get started today ‘¦ complete the application by November 1st in order to participate in the training on November 7th!
