Green Living Expo: Sustainable Yard & Garden

April 13, 2014

With the weather in the midst of a much needed warm-up trend, the focus for many turns to the outdoors — to yards and gardens. Come to our Green Living Expo on Saturday, April 26th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to learn about tips, tools and resources you can use to create a more sustainable outdoor environment. Here’s some of what you’ll find:

  • E-mow
EcoMow, is a small self-fueled mower and grass pellet harvester. It uses the grassy biomass that it harvests as fuel, and processes the biomass that it does not use into a dried pellet form which can be used for other applications such as heating or power generation. This cutting edge technology is the design of a group of engineers and business students from George Mason University.
  • Organic Edible Gardens LLC
Organic Edible Gardens LLC is a sustainable garden design+build company servicing the Northern Virginia and DC Metro areas. They specialize in creating edible and ecologically-sustainable landscapes that sustain and regenerate local ecosystems while providing material and aesthetic benefits to people.
  • Tower Garden
Tower Garden is a unique and eco friendly way to grow incredible Organic Fresh Produce year round through an Aeroponic Tower. It can be grown both inside your home, or outside your home.
Using aeroponics and a specially formulated Tower Tonic plant food, it grows almost any vegetable, herb, or flower’”and many fruits’”in less time than it takes in soil. Tower Garden gives you more control of your and your family’s health by making it easy to grow nutritious, great-tasting vegetables and fruits at home. And it’s a smart choice, both environmentally and economically.
  • GMU Office of Sustainability and Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation
George Mason University’s Office of Sustainability and the Sustainability Studies Program are the leading drivers for culture change, academic integration, and community engagement surrounding sustainability. Both organizations work together to reduce Mason’s carbon emmissions and to reach our goals for climate neutrality
  • Grosaic

Grosaic’ is a hydroponic, illuminated and modular wall-mounted system for indoor application that is designed to be an easy and attractive way for people to reap the many health benefits of being around plants. If you want fresh herbs for your kitchen, to filter the air in your home naturally, or just to have a soothing decorative piece on your walls, Grosaic is the product for you!
  • Mason Parking and Transportation
Mason’s Parking and Transportation division oversees and coordinates all aspects of student, employee, and visitor parking as well as all non-vehicle modes of access to and around the Mason campuses, including shuttles, bicycling, and walking.

Join us at the Green Living Expo to engage with these vendors and many more! Register in advance for a special giveaway at check-in, while supplies last.
