If you are applying for more than four trees, please contact our administrative assistant at trees@ecoactionarlington.org to request a group application form.

Donations to support the Arlington County Tree Planting Program are welcome and enable our community to plant more trees that provide shade, increase health benefits, and benefit wildlife. If applications for trees exceed the amount we are able to provide through current funding, we will prioritize applicants that donate to offset tree planting costs.

2026 Fall Tree Canopy Program Application

Please fill out this form to apply for trees to be planted in fall 2026. If you are requesting multiple trees then you must complete a separate application per tree. Application Guidelines

For the fall of 2026, we are limiting applications as follows: 1) Residents of single-family homes and townhomes may apply for up to 2 trees and 2) Other properties including apartments, condos, and places of worship may apply for up to 10 trees. IMPORTANT – because of limitations on funds available for tree planting, we have set caps for all species listed below. If a tree listed on our species list is NOT listed below, it is no longer available and you will have to select an alternative species.

Cancellation Policy

Participants who change their minds about getting a tree after applying are none-the-less requiring large amounts of time and expense on the part of EcoAction Arlington and the many volunteers who support this program. If you need to withdraw your application, please notify us by July 30, 2026 in writing and include a reason for the withdrawal. We reserve the right to not accept future applications to this program from anyone who withdraws their application without a reasonable explanation.

Providing a map is mandatory. Please use a high quality site plot that clearly shows buildings and streets. This map is critical for the planting crew. Only one map per project is needed. You must include a key indicating which species is to be planted in each location.

Confirm Compliance With The Three Requirements

Planting locations must have access to 100 square feet of soil space.*

Planting spots must be at least 20 feet away from any overhead streetside utility lines. Dominion Power will trim or cut down trees that are too close to power lines.*

We do NOT remove dead trees. We require proposed tree planting locations to be tree-free for at least one year before we plant there. If you are proposing a spot that already has a tree in it, you must remove the tree, and then apply in a future cycle.*
