Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Applications Open for EcoAmbassadors Local Climate Action Program
Local residents looking to make a meaningful difference in our community can now apply for the 2026–2027 cohort of EcoAmbassadors. This climate and energy-centered volunteer training and community engagement program, co-managed by EcoAction Arlington and the Virginia Cooperative Extension, empowers everyday people to lead grassroots environmental efforts. Applications are open online through August 31, 2026.
The interactive, 5-week hybrid training program begins this September. Designed for real-world impact, the sessions teach practical ways to engage neighbors to help them save energy, lower utility bills, and contribute to creating greener, more liveable spaces across Arlington County and the City of Alexandria. Following the training, volunteers will commit to a minimum number of service hours throughout the year .
The EcoAmbassador program is all about building strong local connections and giving people the tools they need to protect our shared environment together.
How to Get Involved:
- Who Can Join: Open to any community member aged 16 and older in the Greater Washington area—no prior environmental background required.
- Program Fee: $110 by August 31, with a $90 early-bird rate until August 17. Students participate for free. Full fee waivers are available to ensure financial barriers never stand in the way of volunteering.
- Background Checks: Required for confirmed adult volunteers over 18 to ensure a safe environment for all.
