Outreach and Communications Assistant
EcoAction Arlington is seeking a full-time outreach and communications assistant. This position is hybrid and requires substantial in-person time for events and event prep with other tasks being conducted virtually. The Outreach and Communications Assistant will report to the Program Manager and will support outreach events, service events, and communication activities. This role is critical to our mission to engage the community with a focus on environmental justice.
You will…
- Organize and implement community and school/youth group outreach events
- Coordinate volunteer engagement for outreach events
- Create social media graphics, social media posts, and flyers
- Design and edit e-newsletters
- Implement service projects and assist with all logistics, including ordering supplies
- Promote opportunities for service projects and outreach events to local organizations and corporations
- Coordinate communications with volunteers
- Track impact of events for funders
- Compile program accomplishments and photos/videos for our communications team
- Work with staff team to track engagement of volunteers and program participants in our database
- Complete other tasks as requested
We’re looking for someone with…
- Bachelor’s degree, or comparable experience
- Minimum one year of work experience
- Experience in planning and executing events
- Experience with social media
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for working with diverse partner organizations, program participants, and volunteers
- Solid organizational, planning, and time management skills
- Outstanding attention to detail
- Excellent computer and technology skills
- A self-starting, proactive, persistent nature
- Background or interest in environmental issues
- Spanish language skills
- Ability to travel to EcoAction Arlington office in S. Arlington and to event locations which are primarily in Arlington County with occasional events in other Northern Virginia locations.
- Availability during evenings, weekends, and occasional federal holidays for outreach and service events. We anticipate there will be an average of one to two evening events a month and two weekend events a month with a higher concentration in the spring and fall. Comp time will be provided for all evening, weekend, and holday hours worked.

Tree Ambassadors (part-time)
EcoAction Arlington is managing a team of 6 to 7 Tree Ambassadors throughout the year. As positions on this team open, we will consider new applicants on a rolling basis. Priority will be given to candidates residing in Arlington County in one of the 13 target neighborhoods of the EcoAction Arlington Tree Canopy Equity Program and to candidates who have Spanish-language skills.
Tree ambassadors will work up to 20 hours a month year-round promoting free trees. Training will be provided. These non-exempt positions will be paid on an hourly basis with no benefits.
The Tree Ambassadors will support the Outreach Manager at EcoAction Arlington. This role requires a dedicated and passionate candidate who enjoys working at the grassroots level to engage diverse groups. This role is critical in advancing our mission to increase tree canopy coverage in Arlington, with a particular focus on engaging communities with low canopy coverage.
