Stand Up for Climate Progress in the General Assembly

January 16, 2024

This 2024 session of the Virginia General Assembly is now underway with opportunities to advance legislation to address tree canopy coverage and natural resources, strengthen the Virginia Clean Economy Act, support improvements in residential energy efficiency, and promote renewable energy and greater local authority to set energy and environmental policies.  Other legislation to watch and oppose will seek to roll back the gains made in 2020 and 2021 to put Virginia on an equitable path toward decarbonizing the electric grid and transportation. The General Assembly session is fast paced and opportunities arise throughout for citizens to contact committee chairs and their representatives to support or oppose pending legislation. Here are some ways to become part of our effort to fight climate change and advance Arlington’s goal for climate neutrality during this session:

  • Fill out the form below to receive action alerts with fact sheets and information on how to weigh in on key bills as they make their way through the legislative process.
  • Participate in Virginia Conservation Network (VCN)’s Water and Conservation Lobby Days in Richmond on January 30 and 31 for an opportunity to meet with your legislators and advocate for the environment with like-minded citizens. Use the form below to let us know you’re coming.
  • Learn more about advocating at the state level and the various state level organizations tracking legislation progress and sign up for their updates and alerts.
