Getting There

The program’s featured presentation will focus on water quality in our region and the importance of community engagement to ensure everyone has access to healthy drinking water and safe recreational opportunities.

The event will open from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. with a reception, exhibits from local organizations, and light refreshments. Following the reception, there will be an overview of EcoAction Arlington programming for 2024, election of our board of directors, and the featured presentation. All paid members are eligible to vote. Registration requested for an accurate headcount. Registration available at the door.

All EcoAction Arlington members are eligible to vote during the election of the board of directors.
Not yet a member? Please join when registering for this event, support our work creating a sustainable community, and you’ll be eligible to vote at the meeting and will be signed up to receive our newsletter & updates. 46th Annual Meeting Agenda

  • 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. – Reception, refreshments and exhibits
  • 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. – Welcome remarks: Jenn Yates, EcoAction Arlington Board Chair and Takis Karantonis, Arlington County Board – EcoAction Arlington program overview and board of directors election
  • 7:30 p.m. – Featured presentation: We all live upstream
    • Nancy Stoner, President of the Potomac Riverkeeper Network, will cover plastic pollution, stormwater, and the impact of PFAs, coal ash, and sewage on water quality.
    • Abel Olivo, Executive Director of Defensores de la Cuenca, who will cover his organization’s work to build a network of Latin@/e leaders who are taking action to support Madre Tierra, our Mother Earth, highlighting their new Embajadores de los Árboles (Tree Ambassadors) program.
      • Following these presentations we will have a short Q&A session moderated by Ting Waymouth, EcoAction Arlington Program Manager.
  • 8:30 p.m. – Mission Moment: Ananya Sinha
  • 8:45 p.m. – Closing

Speakers

Abel Olivo
Co-Founder & Executive Director, Defensores de la Cuenca
An advocate and policy expert by training, Olivo is excited about his role in bringing more resources and opportunities to the Latino community in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. A board member of the Audubon Naturalist Society, an alumni from The Ohio State University, and an advocate for a greener, healthier world, Olivo looks to bring more Latin@s into the environmental space as an education interest, personal experience and career choice.

Nancy Stoner
President, Potomac Riverkeeper Network
An experienced water policy expert, Nancy has a rich and distinguished background in protecting our nation’s water. As an attorney in the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department, as an Acting Assistant Administrator for Water at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where she managed the program for implementing the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act. Nancy also served as Co-Director, Water Program, Natural Resources Defense Council and as Water Program Director and Senior Fellow for the Pisces Foundation where she developed the foundation’s strategy to protect freshwater resources in the U.S. using integrated water management (IWM). Nancy graduated from the Yale Law School, and was awarded a Juris Doctorate in 1986. She holds a Bachelor of Arts with Highest Distinction, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

Information on Getting There & Parking

The Washington – Liberty venue is located at 1301 N. Stafford Street, Arlington, 22201.

We are meeting in the cafeteria. The cafeteria is on the 1st floor on the South side of the building. All guests must enter from the front door facing Stafford Street, entrance #1. After entering, you will go straight and the cafeteria will be on your right.  

Find driving directions on the schools website. There is a parking garage adjacent to the building over I-66 as well as street parking along some parts of N. Stafford Street. You can access the garage from either N. Stafford Street or N. 15th Street.

There are handicap spaces out in front of the building as well as handicap spaces on the top parking deck lot A.

We encourage you to go car-free to the event if you are able. The school is accessible from:

  • Metro on the Orange line to either Ballston or Virginia Square
  • Art bus 52, 53 or 62
  • Metro bus 38B
  • There is a Capital Bikeshare station in front of the school
  • Try Car-Free-Near-Me to find sustainable ways to travel around Arlington.
