Tree Canopy Equity Program Application

Through our Tree Canopy Equity Program, EcoAction Arlington has free trees and shrubs available for your property. This program is working to address tree inequity, increase shade, support wildlife and help our planet.

Note that this application is restricted to applicants with private property in the 10 target neighborhoods of our program:

If you are interested in participating and have property elsewhere in Arlington, please complete the General Tree Planting application for spring 2024.

Before Completing the Application:

Review the background materials and application requirements.
Review the list of species available and select your top two choices of species. Note that we have limited availability of some species. If needed, we will make awards for limited species on a first-come, first-served basis.
It may be helpful to print a PDF of the application form and fill it out before applying online. This will help you review required information and can be used as a reference while filling out the online form, especially if you are applying for more than one tree. The actual online application form is below these instructions.
Have all the documents you will need on hand, including the photo of the planting location and the sketch/map.

2024 Spring Tree Canopy Equity Program Application

Please fill out this form to apply for trees and shrub to be planted in Spring 2024. If you are requesting multiple trees and/or shrubs, then you must complete a separate application per tree. If you are requesting multiple trees or shrubs, then refresh this page after submission to fill out another application form. If you are applying for more than three trees please contact us for a special Group Tree application for multiple trees.

You will get an auto-confirmation message with a copy of your application for every form that you submit. If you don’t get a confirmation email, then we did not receive your application. In that case, please try resubmitting.

Please upload a photo showing the location where you’d like to plant the tree. Use the photo below as a sample. Make sure someone or something is marking the exact location you want the tree planted. Your photo should make it clear that the surroundings area is suitable for planting.

Your map or sketch should show where the tree will go on your property. If you are planting multiple species, one map/sketch per property is fine. It can be as simple as a square to mark your house, with a front or side entrance, a labeled street, and an X indicating the planting location. You can draw this on a piece of paper and submit the photo. Or you can take a screenshot in Google maps with an X marking the planting spot, and the street names visible. See below for sample. This sketch makes it much easier for the planting crews and Miss Utility to locate the spot. NOTE – a sketch map is REQUIRED. If you can’t upload a sketch, please upload a letter of explanation as a Word Doc. Max file size is 6MB.

Providing a map is mandatory. Please use a high quality site plot that clearly shows buildings and streets. This map is critical for the planting crew. Only one map per project is needed. You must include a key indicating which species is to be planted in each location.
